NOTES ON HER VIBRANT SELF

The Mask Project

A Benefit for The Denver Hospice

I love masks. I have created and collected them throughout my career. Her Vibrant Self was for the 2010 Denver Hospice annual fundraiser, The Mask Project.

My interpretation was to draw and paint the face with thousands of glass seed beads. A wildly colorful, multi-textured, kinetic headdress and blue lace gloves further express the mask's personality.

I was deeply honored that project organizers chose Her Vibrant Self to represent the 2010 Gala event.

The Denver Hospice Mask Project was founded in 1998. Over the years, this unique fundraising event has grown into a national event attracting mask creations by renowned artists and celebrities. Through 2009, the project raised more than $3 Million for hospice care in the Denver Metro area.

NOTES ON CIRCUIT du SWINE

Circuit du Swine was created for the Seattle, WA, Pike Place Market Foundation Pigs on Parade charitable fundraising project. Artists were selected to create unique Pig interpretations to be placed at high traffic areas in the Pike Place Market and downtown Seattle.

Circuit du Swine was displayed on the plaza of the Federal Building. At the end of the season, the Pigs were auctioned to benefit the Foundation, which raises funds for preservation of the historic Pike Place Market, an attraction to visitors from around the world. Circuit du Swine was purchased by a Seattle Technical School, where she is the "pet" welcoming visitors and students at the school entryway.

For the Pigs on Parade project, the Foundation provided fiberglass pigs weighing about 60 pounds each. Dimensions of Circuit du Swine are 52"x44"x68". Circuit du Swine was completely covered with photo reproductions of actual circuit boards, and sealed with a weatherproof gloss coating.
